Unexpectedly I was invited to talk about virtues and character education on National BBC Breakfast Television!
The title of the interview was Teaching Manners in Primary Schools, which was not my choice, as of course we are concerned with the whole child, not just a narrow focus on manners, but it certainly seems to have caught people’s interest! Please click the link above to view the video clip.
It was really great. Well done and good luck for the future.Hazel Hooley

Geoff, keep up the good work. Our children need the virtues to help them become the best they can be and make meaning in their lives. The virtues and the five strategies of The Virtues Project impact our intellectual, spiritual, emotional, physical, and social well-being and I believe it is up to both parents and our schools to educate the whole of a child.

Great to see your work getting some publicity. I worked in Singapore for some years and there is an international school there called St Joseph’s International that used the Virtues Project in their daily program.

Geoff,
HUGE props to you and The Virtues Project. Your interview on BBC Breakfast was fantastic and so inspiring. I admire your “calming influence”, confidence and excellence… you embody all the virtues from A to Z. I adore your animals Spiky, Ruffkin, Shep and Lamby. Keep doing what you’re doing. You, and all the VP facilitators around the world are real super heroes!

This is, unfortunately, more evidence of the state failing children. A lot of what is being proposed here should be the responsibility of parents/carers and the state should being introducing policy to hold more parents accountable. There should not be a shift of this responsibility onto schools/teachers who are already under pressure to deliver the curriculum as it is. I applaud what you are doing, unfortunately it is needed. But I do think that it is parents/carers that should be sitting in these lessons!

Wonderful and inspiring! I see children owning the qualities of their character as virtues to be applied in day to day life. Geoff, you Awaken the Gift of Virtues beyond the curriculum. There is an intrinsic confidence and self esteem in the children. This releases them into their natural love of learning to give of their best. In this high trust environment that you’ve created, children know they can express themselves without ridicule or backbiting, instead there is genuine support, and restorative justice processes which result in the freedom to be yourself with creativity and joyfulness.
